Greater Celandine (Chelidonium majus)

greater celandineGreater Celandine (Chelidonium majus) is known in various localities as tetterwort, swallow wort, garden celandine, nipplewort, or in Traditional Chinese medicine it is known as “bai qu cai“. This herbaceous perennial plant which grows up to 20 inches tall is native to North America, the Middle East and Europe. Its habitat includes all areas with moist soils, starting from opened fields and mountainous areas and ending up with deep woodlands. It belongs to the poppy family and is a relative of such plants as the common milkweed and bloodroot. Health benefits of celandine were discovered and have been used for centuries in the framework of alternative medicine. (more…)
