In the Traditional Chinese medicine white willow bark and herbal preparations with it were known as great herbal remedies to treat fever and relieve pains. In the beginning of the 19th century, it was discovered that willow bark is high in salicin, acting similarly to aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), making this medicinal plant a good natural antibiotic.
